Valencia Family Holiday: The Honest Apartment Guide

Travelling with children changes what you need from accommodation, dramatically. Here's what families actually ask us, and what we think is worth knowing before you book.

City of Arts and Sciences, Valencia, a must-visit for families

Why families choose apartments over hotels in Valencia

A family of four in a Valencia city-center hotel means two adults and two children in one room, paying €150–200/night for the privilege. Breakfast is extra. Dinner out every night adds up fast. Getting everyone to sleep when the room has one light switch is its own challenge.

An apartment changes the equation. You have separate sleeping areas, a kitchen for breakfast and quick lunches, space for children to decompress, and a washing machine so you don't need to pack for a week. For stays of three nights or more, the cost per person usually comes out significantly lower, even before factoring in the meals you cook yourself.

Which SleekLofts apartments work for families?

Two of our apartments are specifically well-suited for families:

Loft 0A: Ground floor, 40m², up to 4 (+1 with cot)

The largest loft in the building. King bed plus a comfortable sofa bed. Works well for two adults with one or two young children. Ground floor means no stairs with a pushchair. Baby cot available on request. Full kitchen, air conditioning, free parking on the street. From €89/night.

Penthouse 2A: Top floor, 65m², 2 bedrooms, up to 4 (+1 with cot)

Our most spacious option. Two separate bedrooms (Queen and Double), a large living area, home office space, and a private terrace. This is the apartment where the children sleep in one room and the adults in another. Having that separation changes the quality of a family holiday more than almost anything else. Baby cot available on request. From €119/night.

Note: apartment 1C does not accommodate a baby cot. All other apartments do, on request.

The best family attractions in Valencia

Valencia is an excellent city for families. The concentration of world-class attractions in a relatively small area means you don't need a car for most of it.

    Oceanogràfic

Europe's largest aquarium. Over 500 species across themed zones: Arctic, Mediterranean, Red Sea, dolphin shows, shark tunnel. Budget a full day. Booking online in advance is strongly recommended. Queues without a ticket can be long. Around 15 minutes from SleekLofts by metro or bike.

    City of Arts and Sciences

The complex includes the Oceanogràfic, the Science Museum (Museo de las Ciencias), the IMAX Cinema (Hemisfèric), the Opera House (Palau de les Arts), and the Umbracle. For families, the Science Museum and Oceanogràfic are the main draws. The buildings themselves are extraordinary. Children who've never seen architecture like Calatrava's tend to react strongly.

    Turia Gardens

A 9km linear park built in the dry bed of the River Turia, running through the middle of the city. Multiple playgrounds along the route, including the famous Gulliver Park (Parque Gulliver) near the City of Arts, a giant sculpture children can climb on. Perfect for cycling with children. Valenbisi bike hire or bring your own.

    Albufera Natural Park

A large freshwater lagoon just 15km south of the city. Boat trips on the lake, rice paddies, flamingos in season. This is also the place to eat authentic Valencian paella. The restaurants around the lagoon are the real thing. Best as a half-day or full-day trip, and worth having a car for (or taking the local bus).

    Cabanyal Beach

Valencia's most accessible urban beach. About 15 minutes from SleekLofts by metro or bus. The beach itself is wide, sandy, and calmer than the more central city beaches. Not within walking distance from our apartments (the port sits between us and the sea), but very easily reachable.

    Practical notes for families

    • Baby cot: Available in all apartments except 1C, on request at the time of booking. Bring your own cot sheets/sleeping bag.
    • Pushchairs: Loft 0A is on the ground floor, easiest for pushchair access. All other apartments have stairs (no lift in the building).
    • Kitchen: All apartments have a fully equipped kitchen: hob, oven, fridge, microwave, Nespresso, basic utensils. There's a supermarket within easy walking distance for stocking up.
    • Laundry: All guests have access to the building's laundry area. For longer stays, this means packing lighter.
    • Parking: Free street parking is typically available on our street. Travelling with a car as a family is genuinely easier here than in the city center.
    • Metro: Nazaret metro station is a 5-minute walk. Children under 4 travel free. Line 10 connects to the city center in around 20 minutes.
    • Supermarket: Within easy walking distance. Important when you're buying food for children and don't want to carry it far.

How many nights do you actually need?

For families, we usually see three to five nights as the sweet spot. Enough time to visit the main attractions without rushing, do a day trip to Albufera or the beach, and have one or two easy days, the kind where you cook breakfast and let the children play before heading out after 10am.

One-night stays are possible but rarely worth the travel. Two nights is tight if you want to see the City of Arts area properly. Three to five nights lets you actually settle in and get a feel for the city.

    Family Travel FAQ

Is Valencia a good destination for young children?

Yes, genuinely one of the better European city-break destinations for families. The Oceanogràfic and Science Museum alone justify a trip. The weather is mild, the food is accessible (paella, pizza, fresh seafood), and the city is compact enough to navigate without exhausting everyone.

Are there restaurants near the apartments suitable for families?

Yes. The neighborhood has several local restaurants within walking distance. Spanish dining culture is generally very family-friendly. Children are welcome in most restaurants and the eating hours (lunch 14:00–16:00, dinner from 20:30) are worth adjusting to rather than fighting.

Can we bring a travel cot?

You're welcome to bring your own. We also provide a baby cot on request (except in apartment 1C). Mention it at the time of booking and we'll have it set up on arrival.

Is the area safe for children?

Yes. The Poblats Maritims district is calm, residential, and low-traffic on most streets. Valencia as a whole is one of Spain's safer cities and family-friendly in atmosphere.

Do you offer any discounts for longer family stays?

Discounts are automatically applied for stays of 7 nights or more. Check the pricing during the booking process. The longer stay rate is calculated automatically.
