When booking a short-stay rental, it’s easy to get caught up in the aesthetics – the view, the décor, the overall vibe. But beyond the surface, is often-overlooked amenities can truly elevate your experience from good to exceptional. Here’s my personal, non-exhausting list of extras that seasoned travelers will appreciate:

1. Filtered Water Tap: No more buying bottled water! A filtered water tap provides instant access to clean, refreshing water, saving you money and reducing plastic waste. Filtered water is free of pesky microplastics as well.
2. Wall-Mounted Hair Dryer: Dragging your own bulky hair dryer is a pain. A wall-mounted hair dryer is a thoughtful touch that saves space and hassle.
3. USB Wall Outlets: In today’s digital world, everyone travels with multiple devices. USB wall outlets eliminate the need for adapters, making charging a breeze. And it can be a life saver if you forgot your one at home!
4. An Actually Usable Kitchen: Aim for more than a microwave and mini-fridge! Regardless the size, a well-equipped kitchen – I’m talking about a cooking hood, induction cooktop, decent cookware, sharp knives, and essential utensils – allows you to prepare your own (healthy) meals, saving money and time, while offering you more flexibility.
5. Free Street Parking: Parking fees can quickly add up. Free street parking (when available and safe) is a significant perk, especially in urban areas. If the street is nearby, that’s even better!
6. A Convenience Shop Nearby: For quick snacks, drinks, or forgotten essentials, a nearby convenience shop can be a lifesaver.
7. Self Check-In with Code: Arriving late or leaving early? Self-check-in with a code offers unparalleled convenience and flexibility: do not set for less!
8. Full Climate Control: Having A/C is great. Heating, too! And whether it’s sweltering heat or freezing cold outside, a simple way to control the temperature inside your rental is essential for comfort. Modern mini-split conditioners with heat pump can be used for cooling, heating, dehumidify or simply as a fan. They are fast, quiet, energy efficient and easy to use.
9. A Rock Solid Wi-Fi Connection: In today’s connected world, fast, reliable Wi-Fi is non-negotiable. Whether you’re working remotely or simply want to stream a movie, a strong and stable connection is a must. To avoid disappointments, check in advance the type of connection and the speed offered by your rental!
